Escape – Excerpt from the Upcoming Adventure Book Zap Dragon

Zap Dragon publishes next week! Over the last few weeks, I’ve shared a couple of other excerpts, so if you’re interested in them, you can find them here and here.

As for this week, I picked an excerpt that’s a little farther along in the Adventure than the other two.

Genre: Fantasy Adventure (Multi-ending)

Lead In: You’re a metal, automaton dragon with the persnickety defect that zaps things when you’re touched. Just recently, you zapped the Captain of the City Watch, which led, unfortunately, to him being thrown into one of his own jail cells by some bandits. Now you’re in a cage and the Captain with his men are locked into a cell.

Escape – Excerpt from Zap Dragon

“Least it tried, Parkins,” the Captain says. Your chest clenches. With his blond hair singed and eyebrows wild, he looks like he tangled with a power transformer, but instead of the anger you expect, there’s gratitude in his eyes.

Determination builds within you. You slide your tail out the top of your cage and curl it around to insert the tip into the lock.

“What’s it doing?” Parkins asks.

“Unlocking itself,” the Captain says.

There’s resistance in the lock. With a gentle sideways pressure, the resistance disappears.

“It can do that?”

The lock clicks and the top of the cage swings open with a push.

“Guess so.”

P.S. I mentioned in my recent posts that I wasn’t completely sure if the Zap Dragon stock would arrive in time for publication. I can now say that worry was for naught! Zap Dragon arrived this week and we’re good to go! 🙂
