No, I haven’t gotten any writing done! Stop distracting me.
Life laughs and throws more laundry in my face.
I close the door and ignore the laundry but life calls on the phone…
Sound familiar? Almost every writer I’ve spoken with struggles with a schedule and the distractions that mess with his or her well laid plans. It’s nice to know I’m not alone. Every day I get pulled three or four directions, kicking and screaming. But, I’m determined, I’ll figure this schedule thing out.
So here’s me pulling back on the reigns. For those who’ve followed me for awhile, you know Monday morning you can usually find a new adventure story or short story here. Sorry to disappoint those who have been so amazing in following the stories.
Don’t worry, I’m still writing the adventures, I’m just spreading them out more. My hope is to focus on my new novel. So to open up time for that, I’m changing the posting schedule. Instead of Monday, Wednesday, Friday, the adventures will now post on Tuesday/Thursday and span two weeks instead of one.
Tomorrow, I promise, will start a new adventure. Now I’m going to run away giddily to work on the novel. *Weeeeeee!*
I hope to see you all tomorrow for the Adventure, Beings of the Lovely Hills.
Blessings,
Jennifer
Jen, so glad to hear this…good for you! I’ll miss my dose of your writing, but I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of your intentional time with the novel! You’ve inspired me to do the same. To take a hard look at the schedule, and be honest about commitments. Congratulations on taking such a hard step.
This was quite the decision for me because posting three times a week as opposed to two definitely sees more interaction from others. But ultimately writing longer stories is my passion, so… I need to focus there. Good luck to you on taking a hard look at your schedule and commitments, Mollie. It’s hard but worth it=)
Good on ya! Get that book done so I can read it!!! 🙂
What should my deadline be for the first draft?
Would you like me to comment on this? ; )
Comments are always welcome=)
Oh girl, you know I can totally relate to the scheduling problem! I have no doubt you will get things squared away and make time for the novel while still making us happy with the adventure stories. Looking forward to Tues/Thurs. Good luck! 😉
Thanks, Beth. Your post the other day about scheduling totally rang true for me! And I’ll definitely keep up with the adventure stories. They’re good for the brain=)
What’s the novel about? =) Apologies if you’ve already mentioned it and I just forgot.
I don’t usually say much about the novels, so you didn’t miss anything=) The most recent one involves a dryad and werecats (Modern Fantasy). The one I’m looking for an agent for is the start of trilogy (Epic fantasy), involving an enslaved king’s son and a farm girl… Need to work on my elevator pitch=)
It took me a long time to stop myself from starting pitches with ‘so it’s a bit hard to explain, but…’ I ended up going the self-published route, but I haven’t had much time to work on the publicity… Which is everything. I hope it all goes smoothly for you!
It’s really hard to shove a 100,000+ word novel into a few sentences! Good luck on your own novel=)
